Joe Learns to Keep His Body Clean
Last week, I posted Eric's Secret Prayer. The DVD that Eric's Secret Prayer is on has over 40 3-5 minute shorts on different topics. This stuff is good. So good, that it needs to be shared. This week, I'm sharing Joe Learns to Keep His Body Clean. Watch how, in 3 minutes and 20 seconds, a concerned high school teacher transforms Joe's social life by telling him he's messy and smelly and should probably consider showering and washing his clothes every once in a while. Something that had never really occurred to Joe.

Made in the mid-80s yes? High school days for me. And, no, no one needed to tell me to bathe.
ReplyDeleteI taught early-morning seminary, and the music used in this video was also on the ems videos. Talk about a blast from the past!
ReplyDelete"You need to keep yourself clean. Step into my office and I'll show you what I mean."
ReplyDeleteI love that success = calypso music
We actually had a young man in our group growing up who should have watched this video!
ReplyDeleteThese are so fantastic!! I mean, your video is obviously the best of the best, but Joe's pretty good too. :)
ReplyDeleteCan there please be a movie night with this dvd??
Joe was really just ahead of the times. It is probably wrong of me, but the unwashed Joe looks more interesting...of course, his smell could also be a different, stronger "interesting".
ReplyDeleteno way the kids would have been friends with him that quick. has the director ever been to a high school?
ReplyDelete"Coach, I can't do that."
ReplyDelete"The Ten Dollar Job."
Jon, keep them coming-- there's so many gems on that DVD.
Also, I may have just thought of another idea for fhe, once the ward gets sick of hanging out in my hot tub...
I think I'd like to provide this kind of advice, just so I can blog about the response I get.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice that the karate kid cast could stop by to heckle Joe..
ReplyDeletei agree with sara: i prefer smelly joe. he had cooler hair.
ReplyDeleteWhile thinking about Joe today, I decided it almost rivals the awkwardness of the maturation film "Julie's Song", where Julie is learning about menstruation while everyone else in the school is trying to eavesdrop in the library. Anyone else seen this one? My memories might be blurry, as I had the stomach flu but felt it might be important to go. After realizing that they weren't going to talk about anything really cool, I told my Mom she could just catch me up at home.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize that Mitt Romney had a brother who taught high school in 1980s Utah and held one-on-one personal hygiene discussions with students while walking to his car. I was also amazed by the depth and reality of the storyline. It was much better than "Cats". I want to see it again, and again, and again.
ReplyDeleteSo when does joe learn how to get his hear feathered like all the other guys? I bet he wondered what those big boxes where in the basement, you know the washer and dryer.
